SoleCare for Souls
SoleCare for Souls is a valuable outreach that promotes health through free basic foot care, kindness and the provision of critical services to hundreds of unhoused and hurting people every year.
What We Do
SoleCare for Souls is a compassionate outreach that promotes health and well-being through free basic foot care, human kindness and valuable social interaction to hurting people and to those who are experiencing homelessness and unable to find access to affordable foot care. During the hands-on work of cleaning, trimming, and filing, our SoleCare team members listen to our beloved guests who entrust their feet to our care. With dignity and respect, we tend to their outer “soles” while we nourish their inner “souls” with a listening posture, friendship, encouragement, and prayer bringing much needed help for their feet and a spirit of hope for their heart.
Get Involved
Serve as a SoleCare for Souls Assistant
Tasks include preparing foot soaks, helping the clients feel welcome and comfortable,
disinfecting wash basins. Care training is provided; no contact with the client’s feet is required.
Serve as a SoleCare for Souls Nurse Provider
Providers trim nails, reduce calluses and corns, provide a foot health assessment, and apply moisturizer to feet. All providers must hold an active registered nurse license or higher; training is provided specific to foot care.
Serve as a Member of our Care and Prayer Team
Activate your compassion by participating as a regular member of our virtual prayer team to make a meaningful and lasting difference. Prayer team participants are notified of requests by email. The privacy of our client guests is priority using a first name only and prayer requests are shared by permission only.
Our Volunteers
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the program. SoleCare services consist of a foot bath and having a nurse provide care for the feet. At the end of a client’s care
session, two new pairs of socks are always given.
Soul care is equally important in the care of our clients. All volunteers, whether providers or assistants, are vital in providing hope. During a client’s foot care session, we engage them in conversation, offer a non-judgmental listening ear, encouragement, support and prayer.
Donate Socks and Shower Shoes
We need regular anklet socks all year around. Ankle socks are very appreciated in the summer and by those who experience swelling in their legs.
During the cold winter months, we need donations of new, warm wool socks which are one of the most requested and needed items NOTE: Merino Wool socks are preferred to wick away moisture that leads to foot fungus issues. Your gift helps protect vulnerable feet from harsh conditions and supports healthier steps forward.
Also, we always welcome donations of new diabetic socks for those suffering from this chronic disease.
Shower Shoes
Many of our clients are struggling with ongoing foot fungus issues. This can become chronic if they are taking public showers and unable to properly treat their feet on a regular basis. We provide new shower shoes (flip flops) to those in need, and we welcome donations of new shower shoes.

SoleCare for Souls Program History
SoleCare for Souls (SoleCare) began with a vision placed in the heart of one woman, in October 2005. That vision became reality in May 2006, when Kathy Jo Bissen, Founder of SoleCare for Souls, began providing free foot care at one location in south Minneapolis. In November 2007, SoleCare grew to include a second location and now has a team of foot care providers and assistants giving free basic foot care at several locations in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and in St. Cloud, MN. Our hope is to introduce our SoleCare for Souls program to new people and places wherever our services are needed
